Religions/Belief Systems - Arminianism
Arminianism is a theological movement in Christianity based upon the teachings of Dutch theologian Jacob Harmensen (or Hermansz) (1560-1609). His Latin name was Jacobus Arminius. He opposed the Calvinist doctrine of predestination. The main principles of Arminianism are:
- Divine sovereignty allowed for free will in man.
- Christ died for all mankind and not only for the elect.
- All who believed in Christ could be saved.
Arminianism had an important influence on John Wesley and Methodism.
