In contemporary language, the theory which attributes the origin of all matter, but especially all people, animals and plants to `special creation` from nothing by God. Fundamentalist Christians uphold this doctrine in opposition to the Darwinian theories of evolution.
An older meaning refers to the theory of St. Thomas Aquinas which states that souls are created by God from nothing, as opposed to sould being generated by souls.
