Mutawali refers to Shi’i Muslims of Lebanon, of the mainstream Imami trend of the Shi’a. They are the Ithna-Ashariyya, the Twelvers, who believing in the Twelve Imams. The term Mutawali refers principally to those in the southern Jabal Amel region of Lebanon, but also to those in the northern Biqa, the Baalbek region.
