Political Entities - al-Atassi
Al-Atassi is the name of a Syrian land-owning clan. The al-Atassi has produced many leaders and people of note in modem Syria. It was centered in Horns and has had considerable influence in all of northern Syria. When Syria had a parliamentary regime and political parties were operating, leaders of the Atassi clan were often in opposition to the mainstream of the nationalist movement and the Damascus Government. In the 1940`s they were among the founders and leaders of the "People`s Party."
